Project Summary

The historic Westonbirt School invited Kennedy Woods to expand and improve their prep school facilities. These include a Grade II Listed building within the Gloucestershire grounds of the magnificent, Grade I listed, Westonbirt House.

We proposed a highly sustainable series of interconnected buildings to consolidate the disparate functions: a multi-use hall, kitchen facilities, a classroom block, and a new reception. The U-shaped structure forms a sheltered courtyard, which the rooms look out onto.

Continuing in the pioneering spirit of the original architect, Luis Vulliamy, the buildings use engineered timber construction, which is expressed internally. The exteriors are  contemporary but understated, in keeping with the Cotswold vernacular.
